A Taste of Family

A personal project where I compiled my grandma’s recipe cards and created both physical and digital cookbooks for family and friends. I wanted the recipe pages themself to be clean, minimal, and easy to follow. The illustrations are reflective of vintage Italian design, pops of vibrant earthy colors and a wood-block rugged inspired style. My main goal was to create a visually appealing resource that all age groups could reference.

Because I love free and accessible resources - the book can be viewed here!

Research + Early Concepts

The audience of the book was my own family; for the youngin’s to have when they are older and a memorial for my Mother and Aunt. My intention was to create a book reflective of my grandma’s love for food and feeding people. Food is a huge part of my family, I felt it was about time to have a collection of her recipes!  Originally, the visual style was going to be simple and flat, but I pivoted in remembrance of my grandma’s personality: colorful, loud, gritty. I illustrated accompanying food per section of the book: an artichoke for apps, pasta primavera ingredients for dinner, and cheesecake for sweets.
