Invoke the imagination

Cirque came to us with the ask of taking their iconic sun logo, re-imagining it, and using that to create a collection that would be made available to select fans and influencers. The collection would have a “hero” item to be mailer to individuals- we landed on a sleek black globe with pin holes that served as every Cirque location on that globe. It would be a sleek, minimal, piece for your bookshelf. For the theme, the client wanted us to focus on “the sun” and let us run with that. We landed on a design inspired heavily by vintage astronomy textbook illustrations and posters, where the sun is always the center of everything. It was a very fresh and different take than their current logo and guidelines, which the client appreciated. This was a heavily collaborative project with the client, having weekly calls about designs, products, and strategy.

Rejected Collections

We originally presented the client with three concepts for the collection, the astronomy illustrative being one of them that we decided to move forward with (with many edits). One collection was a sun-card tarot inspired collection, where we injected a pop of calming blue into the items, and played upon the idea of a custom tarot card illustration that also included the circus theme to tie it all together. The other collection was a direct request from the client, an abstract take on “the sun” where I deconstructed the elements of the sun into a funky style sun. The color scheme was very inspired by 70’s, taking a psychedelic yet still minimal play on the sun.
